2-25-15

Today in class we went over the power point on ancient Egypt. We learned about the Pharaohs and the pyramids. i learned that the pyramids were made by craftsmen and that they used to be covered in marble. I also learned that they discovered the seasons and that Pharaohs can be thrown out. This was a very progress not taking filled day in west civ.

Today in class we did the pyramid challenge. We attempted to construct a pyramid. we had to choose all of the right aspects. You have to choose the right god, material, food, payment, and so on. My group finished first and we got an A. I tried to do it again but then i just didn't want to fail so i stopped. it took me about 10 tries, and some mean process of elimination to get the right conditions for building the pyramid.

today in class you were not here and we went to an English teachers classroom for the class. In class i went to your blog and re-went over the whole Egypt power point including all of the videos. i made sure that i had sufficient notes on the geography, gods and goddesses, everyday life social classes and so on. i made sure that i understood the social pyramid and that it went pharaoh, government/noble priests, soldiers, scribes, merchants, artists, farmers, slaves/servants. i also made sure that i understood how important the Nile is to them for agriculture. For me this was a very good review class time.

First Cyber Day

1. the first thing that ancient Egyptians created that i find amazing are the huge pyramid tombs that they made for their pharaohs. these tombs took close to 30 years to create and they were made mostly by farmers. they are STILL STANDING TODAY.
2. another creation of the ancient Egyptians that i find quite cool and innovative is the spears and arrows with bronze tips. these were the first full metal jacket weapons.
3. another great thing that they created were the chariots. people in ancient Egypt would use these to ride around in . they were especially used to ride around in by the military. they were pulled by horses.
4. Another thing that the ancient Egyptians did that was very innovative is the use of reeds to make papyrus paper. they used this paper to write there hieroglyphics and hyratics on.
5. The ancient Egyptians even created there on written language out of pictures and symbols. this is a huge feat for anyone to create your own written language used throughout the whole place of Egypt.

Guns Germs and Steele 3

we completely finished the movie today. In the end of the movie he was able to answer the question that the New Guinean asked him in the beginning of the film. Although he is not done with his theory yet, and still has much more research to do on it, he is much further in understanding why some places are truly so much more developed than others. After this you asked us what questions we thought would be on the test Monday and we gave examples from our notes. we have a test first thing Monday morning but i feel that i am well prepared for it.

Guns Germs and Steel 2

Today in class we all but finished the movie. It summed up Jarred's point about how wealth and development of an area was just luck of the draw. he believed that no one breed of human was superior or smarter than the other. he believes that since people with beneficial plants and animals to continue feeding themselves. this stock of food allowed people to specialize and begin inventing new things for themselves. Jarred truly believes that all of the spread of advancement across the world started with something as simple but as important as the food sources they were dealing with, both plants and animals.

2/2/15

Today in class we took notes on a movie written by jarred diamond named something Germs and Steel. it was based off of a book that was inspired by one seemingly simple question. Someone from New Gunnie asked him why he had so much more than them. he traveled back to a time when everyone was almost equal. At the roots he is beginning to discover why it is so that some places are so advanced, and some are so far behind others.
